Viking Invasion Dance workshop
Using exciting and creative dance and drama techniques the children will have the opportunity to create their very own Viking Invasion movement sequence to evocative and engaging music. This workshop is most effective for groups with a good level of knowledge of the subject matter.
The class will be split into half, taking on roles of the Villagers and the Vikings. Using movement and drama we will then tell the story of the Vikings on the long boats; the villagers going about their daily business; an invasion on the beach; and subsequent battle scene - all through movement and music. This is a fully child led piece - with the participants being asked for their input and to apply their knowledge at every stage of the invasion story. By physically exploring and inhabiting the 'world' of the invasion, children will have access to a wealth of emotive vocabulary based upon their experiences in role, developing language for use in literacy and creative writing.
If desired, the performance piece may be shared at the end of the session with other classes in the school.
The workshops will include games, movement improvisation tasks, group work, speaking and listening exercises and role play opportunities - with each activity being specifically tailored to suit the individual needs of the school and the children involved. Through dynamic delivery and inspirational tasks the children will have an enjoyable and informative journey into history, leaving them with tangible experiences from which to draw upon in their writing.
